 Professor Yunus talks on Social Business at ULAB

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) invited Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus to deliver a Key Note Speech on Social Business on Thursday11 August, 2016. He shared his thoughts on "Social Business" at ULAB.

Ms. Juditha Ohlmacher, Member of Board of Trustees ULAB welcomed Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, popularly known as the Banker to the Poor.

In his speech, Professor Yunus highlighted the pertinence of Social Business in concurrent world. Professor Yunus said the purpose of social businesses is to collaborate with each other. He said that no individual should be unemployed because every person has some creativity. By properly utilizing one’s creativity, one can develop oneself and the society. Professor Yunus stressed on the idea of three zeros – zero poverty, zero unemployment and zero net carbon emission. Professor Yunus encouraged ULAB students to envision a future beyond regular jobs and aspired them to start their own social business ventures. Later, he answered various questions of the students on social business.

Ms. Lamiya Morshed, Executive Director of the Yunus Centre, provided an overview of the mission of the Yunus Centre. The program ended with a vote of thanks by eminent Professor Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor, ULAB. Earlier, Assistant Professor Niaz Morshed Patwary from ULAB School of Business presented the biography of Professor Yunus. Member of Board of Trustees Ms. Taheerah Haq, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor H.M. Jahirul Haque, Registrar Lt. Col. Foyzul Islam (Retd.), many distinguished guests and foreign dignitaries, professors, faculties, students of ULAB were present in the talk.
